Zion’s Dance Learning Story Term 3
Dance is the definition of happiness by Zion
The dance we are doing is the Charleston and it is hard when you look at it and do it. But when you get it and know how to do it you get sassier. We are doing a school production. We are adding different types of moves which include the Cook Island looking move. We have a line of girls and boys. We hold hands and go out in out in. We turn each other’s position and the same thing but turn the girl around and do American looking dance then Jillian and Kayla do a cartwheel and splits, it’s awesome.
How do we learn an unfamiliar dance?
Our success criteria
Practice
Take a risk
Encourage others
Copy others
Carry on the tradition of the dance
Persevere
Use ideas from videos/use tutorials
Break it down - step by step
Slow the moves down
Put the moves together
Add our own style
Support each other by saying “Keep it up!” “You’re doing great!”
To be honest I was really good at adding my own styles like being sassy because I know how to do it
I got better at supporting each other because I keep on thinking of myself not others
I felt relieved because I know how to dance now
I need to work on slowing the moves down because I will know what will be coming next and get sassier
The key comp I am good at is participating and contributing because I never complain
The key comp I need to work on is thinking because I can’t think of the moves coming next.
Tawh’s feedback:
I noticed Zion was good at enjoying himself when he is dancing because it seems like the sort of thing he would enjoy.
I noticed needs to work on looking to the front because otherwise, they can’t see your smile.
